The insertion of very fine ( whisker-like) needles into specific acupoints that alter and improve bodily functions.
Chinese Medicine recognizes that health is more than just the absence of disease. It has the unique ability to maintain and enhance our sense of health and well-being. Plants have the unique ability to harness the natural energies in their environment; the soil (Earth), air (Wind), sun (Fire) and Water. Once harnessed, these combined energies are concentrated and can be extracted from their fruit, flowers, seeds, leaves, stems and roots giving us natural, drug-free medicine.
Moxibustion, or moxa, (derived from Japanese means “burning herb”) involves the burning of mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris) and other dried, aged herbs on, over or near acupoints. Moxa is indicated for places that are painful, an indication that energy is blocked or stuck, or places on the body that feels cold. We use moxa to increase the flow of qi and blood to an area. Moxa also strengthens the immune system, and it is especially useful for patients who are not interested in needles.
